Andrew Lloyd Webber’s London production of The Wizard of Oz is back in Australia. Opening night at the ethereal Regent Theatre in Melbourne was spectacular and successfully evoked feelings of nostalgia. I first saw the Wizard of Oz on television as a 10-year-old and this reprisal will be certain to take you back in time.

The production is visually beautiful and has been seen by thousands of people around the world. With magical sets and stunning costumes, The Wizard of Oz is an extravaganza.

Developed from MGM, The Wizard of Oz has a wonderful score, including new songs by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber. Highlights include, “Over the Rainbow”, “In the Merry Old Land of Oz”, “Follow the Yellow Brick Road”, and “Ding Dong the Witch is Dead”.

Anthony Warlow’s performance as The Wizard and Professor Marvel was impeccable and as per usual he won the audience over with ease. Lucy Durack is sensational as Glinda the Good Witch and Jemma Rix added sass as The Wicked Witch of the West. Playing Dorothy is Samantha Dodemaide and given its her first leading role in a major musical she is a natural on stage.

Dorothy’s companions on the yellow brick road - the Scarecrow (Eli Cooper), Tin Man (Alex Rathgeber), and the Lion (John Xintavelonis) added a dash of whimsy and captured the heart of the audience.
The ensemble also need to be mentioned for their flawless performances and the combined efforts of the company have captured the magic of its silver screen counterpart.

Dorothy and her gorgeous dog Toto, will take you magical journey to the land of Oz and will leave you feeling nostalgic.
